ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan filed applications for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and other senior officials, as well as Hamas figures involved in the ongoing conflict. Arrest warrants were issued for Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes. The court withdrew applications for other Hamas leaders following confirmation of their deaths.
The ICC launched an investigation three years ago into possible war crimes by both Israel and Palestinian militants dating back to the 2014 Israel-Hamas war. Netanyahu has criticized Khan as a “rogue prosecutor” targeting Israel. Israeli officials condemned the arrest warrants as unjust and detrimental to global justice.
Former Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan called the move absurd, highlighting flaws in the international system that he believes favor terrorists over democracies. He urged for a new international system led by countries dedicated to Western values and the fight against terror. The situation is ongoing, and further updates are expected.
