Community Gathers to Support Survivors of Suicide Loss in Central Oregon
BEND, Ore. — This Saturday, the Central Oregon Suicide Prevention Alliance and Deschutes County will host a significant event at First Presbyterian Church in Bend to support individuals affected by suicide loss. The gathering, which starts at 1:30 p.m., coincides with International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, a day dedicated to honoring and connecting those who have experienced the profound grief of losing a loved one to suicide.
Bethany Kuschel, the Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator for Deschutes County, emphasized the necessity of such gatherings. "If you experience a loss like this, you’re never going to get back to being the same person that you were, but there are ways to still grow through that loss and to keep living through that loss," Kuschel stated. She described the event as an opportunity for attendees to join a nurturing community, fostering connection and healing among those who share similar experiences.
The event is open to individuals aged 16 and older who have been impacted by suicide. For those who cannot attend in person, virtual participation options will also be available, including a session in Spanish, ensuring inclusivity for all community members.
For additional information about the event, interested parties can visit preventsuicideco.org/survivorsday.
Help is available for those in crisis at any time, with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline reachable by dialing 988. The upcoming gathering seeks to provide vital resources, support, and hope to Central Oregonians navigating the difficult journey of grief and recovery.
