New athletic director Eric Roedl hired by Villanova, coming from Oregon

Villanova University has announced the appointment of Eric Roedl, a graduate of the school and current deputy athletic director at the University of Oregon, as their next athletic director. Roedl will take over the role in January 2025, succeeding Mark Jackson who left to join Northwestern University.

With extensive experience in athletic administration, including roles at Oregon and Temple University, Roedl is seen as a leader who embodies Villanova’s mission and values. In a statement, Villanova’s president, the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, expressed confidence in Roedl’s ability to lead the athletic department towards continued success both on and off the field.

Roedl, who captained Villanova’s tennis team as a student, emphasized his commitment to fostering a championship culture that prioritizes the student-athlete experience. He aims to work closely with university stakeholders to uphold Villanova’s tradition of excellence in athletic and academic endeavors.

The appointment of Roedl comes at a pivotal time for Villanova as they navigate the evolving landscape of college athletics. With a focus on evaluating the men’s basketball program, Roedl will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the athletic department and ensuring its continued success.

Former Temple AD Bill Bradshaw praised Roedl’s hire, highlighting his proven track record in athletic administration. In the meantime, interim AD Lynn Tighe will continue to lead Villanova’s athletic department until Roedl officially assumes his new role in the new year.
