A Georgia woman, Leilani Simon, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon, whose remains were found in a landfill after Simon reported him missing in 2022. The Chatham County Judge Tammy Stokes acknowledged the impact of Quinton’s life and death on many individuals and the community at large before sentencing Simon. Simon was convicted of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, concealing the death of another, and other related charges in October. The indictment alleged that Simon caused Quinton’s death with an unknown object that caused serious bodily injury and then dumped him in a trash bin. Simon was arrested in November and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, as well as an additional 10 years. She stood silently as the sentence was read and did not speak. Judge Stokes ended the hearing by expressing hope for peace in the aftermath of the tragic events surrounding Quinton’s death.
