In Las Vegas, 57 striking casino workers were arrested during a protest outside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The workers, members of the Culinary Union, had walked off their jobs in an effort to negotiate a new five-year union pay contract. Videos and images posted by the union showed members blocking a road in front of the hotel, with some members being handcuffed by police. Union leaders, including President Diana Valles, were also arrested during the protest. The road next to the casino, which had been closed due to the protests, was reopened after the arrests. The city is currently hosting the Formula One Grand Prix weekend. Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is owned by JC Hospitality, Juniper Capital Partners, Virgin Group, and others. The hotel did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
