Former personal lawyer to Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, appeared in court for a collection proceeding for a $146 million defamation judgment against him. Giuliani complained of financial woes, stating he had no car, credit card, or cash. The judge reprimanded him for not complying with court orders to surrender his assets to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, former Georgia election workers Giuliani defamed during the 2020 election challenge. Giuliani’s new attorney stated he surrendered a 1980 Mercedes-Benz to Freeman and Moss but failed to provide the title. The judge demanded the title be turned over, questioning Giuliani’s diligence in the matter. Additional assets to be surrendered include luxury watches, a Manhattan co-op apartment, his Florida home, and four World Series rings. Giuliani argued against trial deadlines, mentioning Trump’s upcoming inauguration events. The judge refused, warning Giuliani of potential sanctions or incarceration if he fails to comply. Despite facing a $146 million judgment for defaming Freeman and Moss, Giuliani remains unapologetic, stating he regrets the persecution he’s faced. The judge, whom Giuliani described as a left-wing Democrat, had reduced the damages previously awarded to Freeman and Moss. Giuliani’s ongoing refusal to comply with court orders may result in further legal consequences.
