Men’s Basketball Prepares to Take on Oregon This Wednesday

San Diego State Aztecs Prepare to Battle Oregon in Thanksgiving Matchup

The San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball team seeks to sustain its winning streak following a strong season opener against No. 21/19 Creighton, which concluded with a decisive 71-53 victory. This triumph underlined their defensive prowess, as they held Creighton to a mere 19.4% shooting from three-point range.

Next, the Aztecs (1-0) will face the Oregon Ducks (3-1) in their second game of the Players Era Festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This matchup marks the seventh encounter between the two teams, with the series tied at three wins apiece. The last faceoff occurred in 1996, resulting in an 80-68 win for San Diego State.

Head coach Brian Dutcher, now in his eighth season, has cultivated an impressive defensive strategy, evidenced by their remarkable statistic of 94 wins when keeping opponents under 60 points. Under his leadership, the Aztecs have achieved a stellar 71-34 record in neutral site games since the 2009-10 season, ranking them seventh nationally.

Despite roster changes, the Aztecs maintain their defensive ranking as they lead Division I in two-point field goal percentage defense. Highlight performances from the opener included BJ Davis, who scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

SDSU aims for its unprecedented 17th Mountain West title this season. With a history of success in the league, including the recent recognition of Reese Waters and Pharaoh Compton at the Mountain West Media Day, the team is well-positioned for another competitive year.

The game against Oregon is set to start at 1 p.m. PT on Wednesday, November 27, and will be broadcast on MAX.
