UO Official Placed on Leave After Making Offensive Comments to Trump Supporters

Leonard Serrato, the fraternity and sorority life assistant director at the University of Oregon, is currently on leave after posting a controversial response to the 2024 presidential election results. In a now-deleted Instagram video, Serrato directed expletives towards supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, suggesting they “go jump off a bridge” with an added curse. The video has since been reposted and garnered widespread criticism, including from Donald Trump Jr.

In response to Serrato’s comments, the University of Oregon has placed him on paid administrative leave while they conduct an investigation. University officials have denounced his remarks as “abhorrent” and not aligned with their values, despite initially stating that his comments were made on his own time and within his rights. Serrato, whose annual salary is $66,145, has a history of legal troubles, including a 2014 incident where he brought alcohol to an underage party at Fresno State.

Despite Oregon’s electoral votes going to Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump won the overall election and will return to the Oval Office for his second nonconsecutive term. Serrato has not commented on the situation.
