Multiple members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation, including Democratic Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, and John Larson, as well as Sen. Chris Murphy, were targeted with bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving Day. The threats were part of what appears to be a coordinated effort involving multiple members of Congress and public figures. Fortunately, no bombs were found at any of their residences. Local and state police responded to the threats but did not find any explosive materials. The investigation into the threats is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are working to trace the origin of the threatening emails.
The lawmakers expressed gratitude for law enforcement and emphasized that there is no place for political violence in the country. Despite the threats, all the targeted individuals are safe, and no charges have been filed in connection with the incidents. The U.S. Capitol Police and FBI have not yet responded to requests for comment on the threats.
The threats come after a reported increase in threats to members of Congress in recent years, with more than 8,000 incidents being investigated by the Capitol Police in the previous year. The incidents also follow threats made against President-elect Donald Trump’s planned administration officials earlier in the week. Law enforcement agencies are working together to address and investigate the threats against lawmakers to ensure the safety and security of public officials.
