The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will start at 8:30 a.m. ET on West 77th Street & Central Park West and end at Macy’s Herald Square flagship store on 34th Street at 12:00 p.m. ET. There are 2.5 miles of designated public viewing areas along the route, with recommended arrival times as early as 6:00 a.m. for the best spots.
Central Park West offers great views from West 75th to West 61st Streets, while 6th Avenue from West 59th to West 38th Street provides close views to the end of the parade. However, viewing on 6th Avenue between West 34th and West 38th Street is limited.
Despite a rainy forecast for New York City, the parade will go on as scheduled. Spectators are advised to bring ponchos and leave umbrellas at home. Rain is expected with temperatures in the 40s and winds less than 10 mph, allowing the balloons to fly. Balloons cannot fly if winds exceed 23 mph sustained or 34 mph gusts.
Overall, those planning to watch the parade in person should prepare for rain, arrive early for good viewing spots, and be mindful of the restrictions in certain areas along the parade route.
