The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a threat against U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, an Oregon Republican selected by president-elect Donald Trump to lead the Department of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer tweeted about receiving a pipe bomb threat at her home and stated that her family was safe. The FBI is handling the investigation into the threat. Other officials, including U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik and Former Rep. Lee Zeldin, also reported receiving bomb threats. The FBI stated that it was aware of numerous threats targeting incoming administration nominees and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Chavez-DeRemer condemned the violence and stated that it will not deter President Trump and his team from serving the American people. Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt described the threats as “violent” and “un-American,” ranging from bomb threats to swatting incidents. Swatting refers to prank calls that prompt a large police response to a non-existent threat. The Oregon Capital Chronicle, a nonprofit news organization focusing on Oregon state government and politics, reported on the threats against Chavez-DeRemer and other officials. The incident highlights the need for vigilance and immediate reporting of any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
