3,500 Gather for ‘I Like Pie’ Run in Bend on Thanksgiving Day

Bend, OR – More than 3,500 participants braved a chilly Thanksgiving morning to take part in the 19th annual "I Like Pie" Run, a festive 1.5-mile and 5K race held in the scenic Old Mill District. Despite temperatures hovering around 20 degrees with a biting wind chill, runners from near and far gathered to kick off their holiday with an invigorating jog, followed by a sweet reward of various pies.

Megan, a participant from Maine, embraced the wintry conditions, stating, "It was really cold but it was nice, actually." She traveled to Bend with family, showcasing the event’s appeal as a family-friendly gathering.

Scott Douglass, CEO of Cascade Relays, which organizes the event, shared the tasty offerings awaiting participants: "We got pumpkin pie, apple pie, pumpkin cheesecake, and pecan pie, which we added this year. We’ve got plenty of pie!"

Born in an informal setting at the FootZone in downtown Bend in 2007, the "I Like Pie" Run has evolved into a major community event and fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Bend since 2017. This year, the event aims to reach a fundraising goal of $40,000, underscoring its growth and impact on the local community.

The spirit of the event, combining fitness, family, and philanthropy, exemplifies the essence of Thanksgiving, bringing together a community of runners who shared laughter and camaraderie while celebrating the holiday spirit. With smiles, chilled cheeks, and a delicious slice of pie in hand, the participants truly embodied the message of togetherness on this special day.
