Residents in Oregon and Washington cast their votes for U.S. president and for close congressional races in Oregon’s 5th District and Washington’s 3rd District. Both states’ electoral votes went to Vice President Kamala Harris, as expected. While most Democratic voters are concentrated in urban areas, rural areas tend to vote Republican, but lack the numbers to overcome Democrats statewide.
The Oregon 5th Congressional District race saw a challenge from Democrat Janelle Bynum against incumbent Republican Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who managed to flip the district to red in 2022. Bynum aimed to win back the district for Democrats. In the Washington 3rd Congressional District, Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez faced a rematch against Trump-endorsed Republican Joe Kent, who tried to close the narrow gap from the previous election.
These congressional races are important nationally as both parties vie for control of the U.S. House. Interactive maps show county-by-county vote tallies for both states. The races in both districts were too close to call on Election Day, with the results still pending. It remains to be seen which party will come out on top in these closely watched contests.
