A recent study conducted by Class Central, an online course aggregator, has identified North Carolina as one of the top ten states in the United States to pursue a career in technology, ranking eighth overall. The study used data from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard to analyze key factors such as the percentage of degrees awarded in tech, the cost of attendance, and median earnings four years post-graduation. North Carolina scored 5.40 out of 10 in the analysis.
Tech jobs in the U.S. are known for offering higher starting salaries and comprehensive benefits such as stock options, retirement plans, health insurance, and paid time off, making them an attractive option for many. In North Carolina, tech graduates reported median earnings of $59,303 annually, which is 67.1% higher than the state’s overall median earnings for all fields of study.
The state boasts 174 schools offering tech-related programs, and educational opportunities are expanding with initiatives like the partnership between the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and Google. Through this partnership, free tech training programs, including Google Career Certificates, are being offered at all 58 community colleges in the state, providing access to well-paying jobs in North Carolina.
Other states that made it to the top ten list for launching a technology career include Alaska, Wyoming, Utah, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, Montana, West Virginia, and North Dakota. With its strong performance in the study, North Carolina continues to be a promising destination for those looking to build a career in the technology sector.
