Portland Business Spreads Joy to Shelter Dogs This Thanksgiving
PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – This Thanksgiving, the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) received a special treat as local business owner Kristen Martin of "Bring! Treats for Dogs" partnered with the shelter to deliver dog-friendly cupcakes, affectionately called "pupcakes," to every canine resident.
Martin expressed her desire to make the shelter dogs feel loved, especially during a holiday season when many pets remain without families. “When the shelters close, we don’t necessarily think about what’s happening with those dogs, and I just thought how special it would be to give them really lovely treats,” she shared.
This marks the third consecutive year Martin has brought her pupcakes to the OHS, where she delights in spending her Thanksgiving afternoon with the dogs. “Oh, it’s heaven,” Martin remarked. “It just makes me so happy to see them so happy.” She noted that this year’s shelter population is notably higher than in previous years, highlighting the need for community support.
Beyond offering festive treats, Martin hopes her efforts inspire others to consider adopting from local shelters. As a rescue dog owner herself, she emphasized the transformative experience of giving a shelter animal a second chance. “It’s magical when you get to be a part of that experience… It’s just marvelous to give them a second chance and have a really beautiful life with you,” she said.
OHS has numerous dogs and cats available for adoption, encouraging community members to explore these opportunities to enrich their lives with a furry companion. For more details, visit the Oregon Humane Society website.
