Boise State Secures Victory Over Oregon State, Eyeing College Football Playoffs
BOISE, Idaho – In an impressive display of talent, No. 11 Boise State triumphed over Oregon State with a final score of 34-18 on Friday. Ashton Jeanty led the charge for the Broncos with a standout performance, rushing for 226 yards and a touchdown, which propelled him to fifth place among FBS all-time single-season rushing leaders. He now sits just 54 yards shy of surpassing Marcus Allen for fourth place and trails the record of 2,628 yards set by Barry Sanders in 1988.
With the victory, Boise State improves to an 11-1 record and remains the top contender among Group of Five teams for an automatic bid in the upcoming 12-team College Football Playoff. The Broncos’ only loss of the season came in September against No. 1 Oregon. They are poised to face either Colorado State or UNLV in the Mountain West Championship Game next week, a match that could secure their playoff aspirations.
Boise State jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Maddux Madsen to Austin Bolt, followed by Jeanty’s 7-yard touchdown run. Although Oregon State fought back, highlighted by Anthony Hankerson’s impressive 83-yard touchdown run, Boise State maintained its lead, concluding the first half 21-7. Despite Oregon State narrowing the gap to 27-18 in the fourth quarter, the Broncos’ offense proved too powerful to thwart.
Oregon State concludes its season with a 5-7 record and faces uncertainty following significant roster changes. First-year coach Trent Bray will focus on retaining key players amid the reorganization of the Pac-12. The Beavers will open their 2025 season against California on August 30.
