Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning has had his hands full since taking on the leadership role of the football program in December 2021. His biggest priority was retaining the team’s top players and selling them on his vision for the program. Six key seniors have remained on the roster, all of whom have played crucial roles in Oregon’s historic 2024 season.
Oregon is one win away from achieving a 12-0 season, a feat accomplished by only one other team in the program’s history. Lanning credits the six super-seniors for shaping the team’s culture and being leaders on and off the field. Among these seniors, linebacker Jeffrey Bassa and tight end Terrance Ferguson stand out as players who have made significant contributions during their time at Oregon.
Bassa, a four-year starter, has shown tremendous growth and leadership, while Ferguson has set numerous records for tight ends at Oregon. Both players have exemplified the values of hard work and dedication that Lanning strives to instill in his team.
The other four seniors, including cornerback Dontae Manning, tight end Patrick Herbert, offensive lineman Marcus Harper, and defensive lineman Keyon Ware-Hudson, have also played vital roles in the team’s success. Manning’s improvement as a cornerback has bolstered Oregon’s defense, while Herbert’s blocking skills have made him one of the team’s most dependable players.
As the Ducks prepare to face rival Washington and potentially achieve a perfect season, the seniors will be honored in what could be their last game at Autzen Stadium. Lanning is proud of the seniors for believing in themselves and their ability to create a successful season. Saturday’s game will be a celebration not only of a potential 12-0 season but also of a small group of seniors who have left their mark on Oregon football.
