New charges have been filed against Colorado dentist James Craig, who was accused of fatally poisoning his wife’s protein shake. The new charges focus on his alleged attempts to kill a detective involved in the case. Craig has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in his wife’s death in March 2023. His lawyer withdrew from the case, and it is unclear if he has a new attorney for the new charges, which include solicitation to commit first-degree murder and perjury.
Records show Craig was in jail with the man he allegedly asked to murder the detective. The detective had worked on the investigation into Angela Craig’s death. Authorities previously accused James of dosing his wife’s drink with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline. Her death was initially believed to be from arsenic and cyanide poisoning, but the coroner later attributed it to cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.
James Craig’s internet search history, online purchases of potassium cyanide, and suspicious behavior at his dental practice raised red flags. His business partner alerted authorities when he learned of the cyanide purchase. At a court hearing, Craig’s lawyer stated there was no direct evidence of poisoning. However, the lawyer withdrew, stating a belief that Craig was involved in criminal activity.
Jury selection for Craig’s trial has been postponed indefinitely. The investigation into Angela Craig’s death, the new charges, and the alleged plot to kill the detective highlight the complexity of this high-profile case.
