Christine Heller Seaman, a 60-year-old woman from Manhattan, has been haunted by the disappearance of her grandparents, Catherine and Charles Romer, who went missing 44 years ago. The couple vanished while traveling home from Miami Beach in their 1978 Lincoln Continental. Law enforcement expressed concerns about foul play, as Catherine was wearing $81,000 worth of jewelry at the time of their disappearance.
Recently, a car similar to the Romer’s was discovered submerged in a Georgia pond. One human bone was found in the vehicle, along with personal belongings such as jewelry and a license plate with the couple’s initials. While the remains have not been identified as belonging to the Romers and the car has not been confirmed to be theirs, Seaman and her family believe the mystery may soon be solved.
Seaman described her grandmother as the “life of the party” and her step-grandfather as a “lovely and generous man.” She expressed gratitude towards investigators and the diving team that found the submerged car, saying that their efforts have brought her family a sense of resolution and peace.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the identity of the remains and the car, Seaman and her family are choosing to remember their missing relatives with happiness and celebrate their lives. She recalled that her father, Catherine’s only child, was devastated when he learned of his mother’s disappearance and the family has carried that sorrow with them for decades.
In the midst of the unknown, Seaman and her family are holding onto the hope that the Romers died in an accident rather than falling victim to a crime, allowing them to finally talk about their beloved relatives without dread or sadness.
