Pepperdine Women’s Volleyball Concludes Season with Thrilling Comeback Over Oregon State

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine women’s volleyball team demonstrated resilience by completing a dramatic 3-2 reverse sweep against Oregon State on Saturday, capping off the regular season in style. After falling behind by three points in the third set, the Waves pulled together, winning the match with set scores of 21-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-8, and 15-12.

Seniors Grace Chillingworth, Birdie Hendrickson, and Trinity Stanger led the team in their final home match at Firestone Fieldhouse. Hendrickson shone with a double-double, earning 20 kills and 14 digs, while Chillingworth contributed 17 kills and 8 digs. Stanger anchored the defense with a match-high 17 digs and several key assists.

Freshman standout Ella Piskorz emerged as a vital player, recording 12 kills and seven blocks, while Chloe Pravednikov added nine kills. Junior Rosemary Archer, in her first season as the primary setter, delivered an impressive 46 assists and 11 digs. The Waves’ blocking efforts stifled the Beavers’ offense, limiting them to a .141 hitting percentage.

The turning point came in the pivotal third set when Chillingworth and Hendrickson combined for crucial kills, helping Pepperdine recover from a challenging start. The Waves dominated the fourth set, recording an outstanding hitting percentage of .409. In the decisive fifth set, Piskorz’s timely kills fortified Pepperdine’s lead, securing the match with a final score of 15-12.

With this victory, Pepperdine finished the season at 17-11 overall and 14-4 in conference play, marking the eighth consecutive winning season under head coach Scott Wong, who celebrated his 180th career win. The Waves await their postseason fate, with the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Selection Show scheduled for tomorrow at 3 p.m. PT.
