Wolves Kick Off GNAC Play in Alaska This Week

Western Oregon Wolves Prepare for Key GNAC Matchups in Alaska

This week, the Western Oregon University (WOU) Wolves, currently holding a 2-4 record under second-year head coach Jessica Peatross, head to Alaska for crucial Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) games. The Wolves will face the Alaska Nanooks (5-2) on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. PT and the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves (8-1) on Saturday at the same time.

Notably, WOU has recently experienced an up-and-down journey, suffering defeats against Hawaii Hilo (56-49) and 18th-ranked CSU Dominguez Hills (95-50) at the Big Island Holiday Classic last week. In their prior Alaska visit, the Wolves broke a long-standing curse, snapping a 20-year, 37-game losing streak to Anchorage with a convincing 73-53 triumph. However, they also endured a narrow overtime loss to the Nanooks shortly after.

Alaska currently ranks second in the conference for scoring, averaging 75.4 points per game, while Alaska Anchorage leads Division II with an impressive average of 89.3 points. Notable individual performances in Alaska include Destiny Reimers for the Nanooks, who netted 17 points in their last match, and Mack for the Seawolves, boasting an impressive average of 16.6 points per game.

A highlight for WOU this season has been the performance of Bella Pedrojetti, who is just 38 points shy of 1,000 career collegiate points. Recent standout performances also include Enid Vaifuna, who narrowly missed a triple-double against Willamette. As the Wolves prepare to face these formidable opponents, they carry both optimism and determination into the heart of GNAC competition.
