Investigators are currently trying to determine the cause of a midair collision over Washington, D.C., that left 67 people dead. The incident occurred near Reagan Washington National Airport when a small passenger plane, American Eagle Flight 5342, collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. The plane was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter had three people on board. The helicopter was on a training flight at the time of the crash. Data from Flightradar 24 shows that both aircraft were flying at around 400 feet when the collision occurred. Unfortunately, there were no survivors of the crash. President Trump confirmed the tragic news, making this the first fatal commercial aircraft accident in the U.S. since 2009. This is also the second aviation incident with 10 or more victims so far this decade. Investigators are continuing their work to uncover more information about the circumstances leading up to the collision as the nation mourns the loss of those involved.
