LCSO Arrests Man Charged with Child Sexual Abuse in Oregon

Press Release: Man Wanted for Child Sexual Abuse Arrested After Armed Standoff in Lyon County

Mason, NV – A man wanted on multiple child sexual abuse charges in Oregon was apprehended on Saturday following an armed confrontation in Mason, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

Scott Shepard, whose initial charge stemmed from an assault incident, became the subject of investigation after deputies learned of his outstanding warrants from Oregon, which include ten counts each of encouraging child sexual abuse in both the first and second degrees, along with charges of identity theft and computer crimes.

The incident occurred around 2:10 PM when LCSO deputies responded to reports of a fight involving two males in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue in Mason. Emergency dispatch informed officers that one man, later identified as Shepard, was armed with a gun and allegedly pointing it at others in a nearby residence. Witnesses reported that Shepard retreated into the house with the firearm before deputies arrived on the scene. Fortunately, no shots were fired during the altercation.

After approximately 35 minutes, Shepard exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search revealed a small black handgun, which was identified as a replica BB gun resembling a Glock semi-automatic pistol.

As a result of the confrontation, Shepard was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. His bail has been set at $525,000, and after facing a judge for the local charges, he will be transferred to Oregon authorities to address the warrants against him.

The LCSO continues to emphasize its commitment to protecting the community and ensuring that individuals charged with serious offenses face justice.
