Nebraska Upsets No. 16 Oregon, Continues Strong Run
EUGENE, Ore. — In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, Nebraska’s senior guard Brice Williams led the Cornhuskers to a 77-71 victory over the No. 16 Oregon Ducks on Sunday night. Williams not only scored 28 points, hitting 10 of his 18 field goals, but also contributed seven rebounds and six assists in a standout performance. The victory marks Nebraska’s fourth win of the season against a Top 25 opponent, improving their record to 14-8 overall and 4-7 in the Big Ten Conference.
Supporting Williams, Juwan Gary added 23 points while Rollie Worster chipped in 11. For Oregon (16-6, 5-6), Jackson Shelstad led the scoring with 16 points. Brandon Angel and TJ Bamba contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively, but it was not enough to prevent the Ducks from suffering their third consecutive defeat.
The game shifted momentum when Nebraska went on an 18-5 run after Oregon briefly closed the gap to 14-12. Though the Ducks fought back, cutting the deficit to four points in the closing minutes, Nebraska maintained composure, with Williams and Gary converting crucial free throws to secure the win.
Nebraska’s recent success includes back-to-back victories over ranked teams, having previously defeated No. 18 Illinois. The Cornhuskers are poised for a less challenging schedule ahead, as they face Washington next. In contrast, Oregon will be tested on the road with upcoming games against top-tier opponents Michigan and Michigan State, looking to snap their losing streak.
With significant contributions from their key players, Nebraska looks to continue their upward trajectory, while Oregon must regroup to regain their winning form.
