The Franklin Police Department in Wisconsin has been grappling with a cold case homicide dating back to 1986. The victim, 27-year-old Lyle Trudeau, was found stabbed multiple times with his throat slit near a farmer’s field. Despite efforts by investigators and witnesses reporting seeing Trudeau with three men outside a bar in Cudahy, the case went cold. However, with advancements in DNA technology, there is renewed hope that the case could be solved.
Police Captain Jason Ireland emphasized the importance of teamwork and passing the investigation on from one generation of detectives to the next. He stated that new technology not available at the time of the crime could provide a breakthrough in the case.
Investigators are re-interviewing witnesses and re-examining evidence collected at the time of the murder, including a towel used to wipe up blood. The FPD is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact them at 414-858-2643.
