A hospital in Montclair, NJ, Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center, has implemented the use of artificial intelligence to diagnose and treat heart disease. The hospital is now utilizing two cutting-edge AI technologies, the HeartFlow FFRCT Analysis, and the CathWorks FFRangio System. These technologies use advanced AI to analyze data from standard coronary computed tomography angiograms, providing clinicians with detailed 3D models of a patient’s coronary arteries and calculating fractional flow reserve values to visualize arterial blockages and understand their impact on blood flow.
Chief medical officer Valerie Allusson stated that artificial intelligence is revolutionizing healthcare, particularly in the field of coronary artery disease. The CathWorks FFRangio System works alongside the HeartFlow technology to assess coronary physiology during catheterization using AI-driven analysis of routine angiograms, eliminating the need for additional invasive tools or medication.
This adoption of AI-powered tools represents a significant advancement in the hospital’s cardiac care capabilities, enabling faster and more precise decisions tailored to each patient. Ankitkumar Patel, medical director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, highlighted that this technology provides a new level of precision and innovation for the community.
The use of HeartFlow technology is not exclusive to Mountainside Medical Center, as it is also utilized in other hospitals within the Hackensack Meridian Health network such as Hackensack University Medical Center and Palisades Medical Center. Additionally, CathWorks technology is available at several other hospitals in the network including Jersey Shore University Medical Center and JFK University Medical Center.
