Attorneys general from 14 states have filed a lawsuit challenging the authority of Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to access sensitive government data. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, along with attorneys general from Arizona and New Mexico, are seeking to invalidate Musk’s directives and actions while issuing a restraining order. Attorneys general from California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington have also joined the lawsuit.
Musk has been criticized for his approach to cutting government spending and restructuring priorities, calling for the deletion of entire agencies from the federal government. Democratic attorneys general have raised concerns about the handling of sensitive information at agencies, such as the CDC and IRS. The lawsuit alleges that Musk and DOGE are violating the law, prompting calls for a restraining order against his actions.
