Portland Pilots Soar to Victory Over Oregon State in High-Scoring Contest
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Pilots showcased their shooting prowess with a dominant performance in a wintery Thursday night matchup, defeating the Oregon State Beavers 84-72 at the Chiles Center. The win improved Portland’s record to 9-17 overall and 4-9 in the West Coast Conference.
Highlighting the evening, freshman forward Austin Rapp led the charge for the Pilots, scoring a career-high 24 points, complemented by two steals and two blocks. Rapp’s impressive three-point shooting was a key factor, as Portland shot an impressive 50 percent from beyond the arc, sinking 12 of 24 attempts. Fellow teammates Max Mackinnon and Chris Austin contributed 17 and 14 points, respectively, while Bol Dengdit and Vukasin Masic each added 11 points.
The game was tightly contested early on, featuring four lead changes before Portland embarked on an 8-2 run, establishing a 13-9 lead. While Oregon State battled back to equalize at 38-38 just before halftime, a buzzer-beating layup by Vincent Delano allowed the Pilots to maintain a slight lead at the break, 42-38.
In the second half, Portland never trailed, showcasing excellent passing with 21 assists on 28 made field goals, while forcing 14 turnovers from the Beavers. The Pilots created separation late in the game, ultimately extending their lead to secure the win.
With this victory, the Pilots will look to build momentum as they return to the Chiles Center on Saturday for a doubleheader, facing LMU at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend, but should prioritize safety during inclement weather. Tickets can be purchased through PortlandPilots.com.
