Karen Huger of ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ convicted of DUI

“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Karen Huger was sentenced to a year in jail for driving under the influence and crashing her Maserati into a street sign in 2024. The judge also imposed fines, probation, and a one-year driving ban once Huger is released. If she violates probation, she could serve the suspended year in jail. Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy emphasized the seriousness of driving under the influence and the need for public safety on the roads.

Huger’s previous alcohol-related traffic cases from 2006 to 2011 were cited by prosecutors to argue for jail time. A police officer’s body camera recorded Huger struggling with balance and slurring her speech after the crash. While Huger did not appear on the reunion shows of “RHOP,” she sent a video message announcing she had entered rehab for alcohol and anti-depressant issues.

The sentencing was for two years, with one year suspended, though prosecutors had sought six months in jail and Huger’s defense wanted no jail time in favor of rehabilitation. Huger, known as the grande dame of high society in suburban Washington, will have to serve her time for the DUI conviction. The story is ongoing and updates may follow.
