Severe Winds and Thunderstorms Disrupt Power Supply Across Oregon

Portland General Electric Reports Widespread Power Outages Amid Severe Weather

Portland, OR – Portland General Electric (PGE) announced that nearly 14,000 customers were still without power in the metro area by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, following a powerful storm that struck the region. According to OPB, the storm brought high winds and heavy rain, which led to disrupted service across PGE’s service area as trees were toppled and limbs fell onto power lines.

PGE spokesperson John Farmer reported that crews have been actively working to restore power since the storm hit Monday afternoon. By Tuesday morning, these efforts resulted in approximately 91,000 customers having their service restored. However, Farmer noted that at the height of the storm Monday night, around 72,000 customers experienced outages.

The situation remains challenging, as some customers may not regain power until Wednesday evening, emphasizing the ongoing impact of the storm. In addition to PGE’s outages, thousands of customers of Pacific Power were also affected, with around 3,700 outages reported remaining as of Tuesday morning.

Utility crews are prioritizing safety and working diligently to resolve the outages caused by the severe weather. Residents are advised to report any continued outages and to stay updated on restoration efforts as the situation develops.

As the storm subsides, PGE and Pacific Power remain committed to returning electricity to all affected customers, ensuring that communities can recover as quickly as possible from this significant weather event.
