Oregon Ducks Sweep Columbia in Dominant Doubleheader
EUGENE, Ore. — The No. 11 Oregon Ducks delivered a commanding performance, sweeping a doubleheader against the Columbia Lions on Saturday, securing a series win ahead of their final game on Sunday. Oregon improved its record to 9-2 with decisive victories of 35-1 in the opener and 8-3 in the nightcap, showcasing their offensive prowess.
In the first game, Oregon quickly seized control by scoring two runs in the first inning. Columbia managed to get on the board with a sacrifice fly from Anthony Temesvary in the second inning, but the Ducks responded fiercely, scoring four runs in the second inning and nine more in the third. The Lions struggled offensively, recording just four hits and committing four errors. Columbia starter Thomas Santana suffered the loss, lasting only 1.2 innings. Standout performances for Oregon included Maddox Molony, who hit two home runs with six RBIs, and Ryan Cooney, who went 4-for-4 with six runs batted in. Michael Meckna earned the win, tossing three innings of one-hit shutout ball.
Game two followed a similar trend, with Oregon quickly building a 7-0 lead by the sixth inning. Columbia eventually scored, fueled by a ground rule double from Hunter Snyder and a sacrifice fly from Ben Fishel, narrowing the gap to 7-3. However, a late solo home run by Dominic Hellman solidified Oregon’s victory. The only Lion with multiple hits in the nightcap was Skye Selinsky, who went 2-for-4, while Columbia’s Jagger Edwards took the loss.
