Ex-Oregon Football Player Accused of Pistol-Whipping Individual Arrested

Former University of Oregon football player Ryan Pellum, also known as Ryan Tristan Chance Taylor, was arrested in Springfield, Oregon on a nationwide extradition warrant from Long Beach, California. The 19-year-old wide receiver was accused of assaulting a person on Christmas Day, causing head injuries and firing shots in an unknown direction.

After being found by Eugene police on January 8, Taylor was taken to Lane County Jail, where he waived extradition and posted bail on January 9. He had entered the transfer portal just days before his arrest following his first season with the Oregon Ducks.

Taylor, a four-star recruit in the 2024 class, had originally committed to USC before switching to the University of Oregon. However, a university spokesperson confirmed that he was no longer enrolled at the school or a member of the Ducks team.

Authorities have until January 23 to extradite Taylor to California to face charges for the alleged assault. Both Long Beach officials and UO Athletics have not provided further information on the case. People can sign up for the latest crime coverage through PEOPLE’s True Crime newsletter.
