Pacific Men’s Tennis Unfolds Thrilling 4-3 Victory Over Oregon

Stockton, Calif. – In an exhilarating matchup, the No. 65 Pacific men’s tennis team achieved a remarkable 4-3 victory against No. 51 Oregon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Complex on Saturday. Despite an hour delay, the match proceeded with singles play taking priority over doubles.

The singles competition ended in a tie at three wins each, creating a crucial moment for the doubles matches. The decisive victory came from juniors Tiago Silva and Terence Das, who clinched the win at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 finish after breaking their opponent’s serve. Pacific’s other doubles pair, Senior Justas Trainauskas and freshman Jonty Giesen, also contributed with a solid 6-4 victory at No. 2.

Pacific’s success in singles was spearheaded by Schaertlin Coffey, who won decisively at No. 6 with a score of 6-1, 6-4. The Tigers surged ahead 3-1 with strong performances from both Silva and Trainauskas, securing wins in their respective matches. Silva overcame his opponent with a tightly contested 7-6 (6), 6-4 win on court one, while Trainauskas fought through adversity to succeed 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

Oregon (8-4) mounted a comeback, winning two three-set matches, but ultimately fell short. This victory marks only the second win for Pacific against Oregon in their 16-match rivalry, with their last win dating back to March 12, 2005.

Looking ahead, the Tigers aim to maintain momentum as they host Montana on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and Princeton next Sunday on Free Pizza and Popcorn day.
