A Michigan woman is seeking to have her three missing sons declared dead, nearly 15 years after their father failed to return them after Thanksgiving. The disappearance of Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner Skelton has haunted the small town of Morenci and remains unsolved. Despite authorities suspecting the boys are deceased and suspecting John Skelton is responsible, he has not been charged with their murder. Skelton is expected to complete a 15-year prison sentence in November for not returning the boys to their mother, Tanya Zuvers, which is his only conviction in the case.
Zuvers has been waiting for closure and information about her sons’ whereabouts since November 2010, but nothing has been discovered. As a result, she is seeking a court declaration of death for her sons. This could provide closure for the family and potentially allow them to pursue a wrongful death or civil claim. Skelton, who did not respond to a petition filed by Zuvers, has provided conflicting and false information about the boys’ whereabouts, leading to wild goose chases by investigators.
Despite the passage of years, the Skelton brothers have not been forgotten in Morenci. A plaque memorializing Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner can be found in a local park, symbolizing “Faith, Hope, Love.” The upcoming court hearing will feature testimony from Zuvers and investigators who have worked tirelessly to uncover any trace of the missing boys.
