The NCAA Football Rules Committee has proposed a new rule in response to Ohio State’s regular season loss to Oregon. The rule would allow offenses to reset the game clock in the final two minutes of each half if the defense commits a too many men on the field penalty and the additional players participate in the play. This rule change comes after an incident in the game between Ohio State and Oregon where a too-many-men-on-the-field penalty impacted the clock and ultimately the outcome of the game.
The proposed rule, along with others, will be sent to schools for review before the NCAA’s playing rules oversight panel meets to approve or deny the changes in April. Additionally, Ohio State offensive line target Sam Greer has set his unofficial visit schedule for the spring, with OSU expecting to host him on March 17 as they kick off the first of 15 spring practices.
This news comes as fans eagerly anticipate key dates in the upcoming season including the start of spring practice, the NFL Draft, Big Ten Media Days, and key matchups for Ohio State such as their season opener against Texas and the annual rivalry game against Penn State. The Buckeyes will be looking to bounce back from their two losses last season that kept them out of the Big Ten Championship Game and the bye round of the College Football Playoff.
