Teenagers facing felony charges for assaulting student with Stanley Cup

Two 13-year-old girls at Calvin R. McCullough Middle School in Delaware were charged with multiple felonies after seriously injuring another student during a fight where they struck her multiple times in the head with a metal Stanley cup. A 12-year-old boy was also involved and charged with a misdemeanor offense for striking the victim with his hands. The victim was taken to a hospital with serious head injuries. The girls were charged with second-degree assault, second-degree conspiracy, possession of a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct. The Colonial School District said they will also face disciplinary actions in addition to the criminal charges. The district emphasized that violence is not condoned in their schools and is cooperating with authorities. Both girls turned themselves in and were released on $7,500 bonds after being arraigned by New Castle County Family Court. The incident highlights the severity of violence in schools and the importance of addressing and preventing such behavior among students. Authorities and schools must remain vigilant in enforcing consequences for violent actions and providing support to those affected by such incidents.
