Oregon State Softball Upsets No. 12 Oregon in Jane Sanders Classic
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team made a statement at the Jane Sanders Classic, pulling off an upset against 12th-ranked Oregon after falling to eighth-ranked Florida State earlier in the day.
The Beavers (10-12) achieved their first victory this season against a ranked opponent with a decisive 5-2 win over their archrivals, the Ducks. This victory also represents Oregon State’s second consecutive year defeating a team ranked 12th, following last season’s win against UCLA.
The day’s action began with a challenging matchup against Florida State, where Oregon State lost 8-2. The Beavers initially threatened the Seminoles with a second-inning single from Tristian Thompson, scoring Samantha Gutierrez. Oregon State narrowed the gap to 3-2 in the fourth, but Florida State’s offense surged with five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, sealing the win. Ellie Garcia suffered the loss, giving up eight runs, six earned, over the game.
In the second game against Oregon, the Beavers took control early, with Thompson hitting a two-run homer in the second inning. Although Oregon leveled the score in the fourth, the Beavers responded in the sixth. A clutch two-RBI double from Jada Lewis, along with a bases-loaded walk, allowed Oregon State to break the tie and secure the lead. Logan Hulon pitched an outstanding complete game, striking out eight and limiting Oregon to only six hits, with just one run attributed to her.
The Beavers will conclude the Jane Sanders Classic tomorrow against Abilene Christian, with first pitch scheduled for noon, streaming live on B1G+.
