Oregon State Softball Dominates Abilene Christian with 9-0 Victory
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon State’s softball team concluded the Jane Sanders Classic with a commanding 9-0 triumph over Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon, marking their second straight win of the weekend.
The Beavers (11-12) showcased their offensive prowess, with Jaeya Butler leading the charge. Butler delivered a stellar performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a two-run homer that significantly boosted her team’s lead. Starting with a 4-0 advantage after three innings, Oregon State added five more runs in the seventh for insurance, ensuring a secure victory.
Oregon State’s scoring began with a double from Weir, followed by an RBI single from Ella Dardis and Butler’s two-run home run, establishing a solid early lead. Despite a threat from Abilene Christian in the fourth inning, where they advanced to third base, the Beavers maintained their momentum.
The Beavers put the game out of reach in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Paige Bambarger drew a walk, and Butler followed with a single that drove in Morgan Howey. Weir’s subsequent double brought in Rylei Trujillo, Bambarger, and Butler, rounding out the scoring for Oregon State.
Ellie Garcia (6-4) earned the win, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts and allowing only six hits. Weir complemented Butler’s strong outing with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Looking ahead, the Beavers will kick off their season at Kelly Field with a home doubleheader against Sacramento State on Saturday, March 15, starting at 1 p.m. The game will be available for viewing on ESPN+.
