Toreros Suffer Heartbreaking Loss to No. 8 Oregon State
CORVALLIS, Ore. – In a tense showdown at Goss Stadium, the University of San Diego Toreros faced a devastating 2-0 defeat against the No. 8 Oregon State Beavers on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore pitcher Logan Reddemann showcased outstanding form, allowing no runs over six innings, while striking out seven and surrendering just six hits, but the Toreros were ultimately undone by a walk-off home run.
The contest was a classic pitchers’ duel, with both teams locked in a scoreless battle until the final moments. USD had a critical opportunity in the sixth inning, placing runners on second and third with no outs. However, they faltered, failing to capitalize on the situation as Oregon State’s defense tightened, striking out two batters and executing a fielder’s choice to keep the game at 0-0.
Jack Gurevitch’s error and Austin Smith’s double set up the rally for USD, but they could not convert. After Reddemann exited, Smith entered the game and pitched a solid 2.2 innings. Unfortunately for the Toreros, his final pitch resulted in a game-winning home run hit by Easton Talt, sealing the win for the Beavers before a crowd of 4,003.
Despite the loss, the Toreros had notable performances, with Isaiah Lane and freshman AJ Beltre each achieving 2-for-4 at the plate. Reddemann’s ability to strand six runners highlighted his dominance on the mound, while Smith found success with three strikeouts in relief.
