Oregon reaps rewards of hard work with state silver medal | Sports

The Oregon High School cheer team, led by coach Kelli Pierce, recently placed second in the Cheer Dance Small Division at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches state finals competition. The team’s success was the result of months of hard work and dedication during the winter season, which includes cheering on school sports teams and competing in various competitions. Pierce, who has been coaching for 25 years, emphasized the importance of supporting school athletics and promoting school spirit.

During competitions, the team performs two types of routines – cheer dance and game day. The game day routine consists of crowd-leading cheers, a band chant, and a school song, while the cheer dance routine showcases dance skills, jumps, kicks, and tumbling. Judges score the routines based on factors such as crowd engagement, volume, synchronization, and technique.

Pierce and her cheerleaders put in the time and effort to ensure their routines are well-executed and score well with the judges. They analyze film of their routines, carefully select music that complements their movements, and strategically design their routines to meet judges’ criteria. The team practices three to four days a week during the competition season to perfect their routines and represent their school with pride.

The Oregon High School cheer team’s dedication and talent were evident in their impressive performance at the state finals competition, solidifying their place as one of the top cheerleading teams in Wisconsin. Pierce’s leadership and the team’s hard work have earned them recognition and praise within the cheerleading community.
