Grand Canyon University Golf Team Ranks Eighth at Duck Invitational
EUGENE, OR – The Grand Canyon University (GCU) men’s golf team concluded the second round of the Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club with a team score of 3 over par through 36 holes, placing them in eighth among a competitive 15-team field. Playing under sunny conditions, GCU, ranked No. 46 nationally, recorded a score of even par in the first round and 3 over in the second. This marks their first event with a national ranking since the official NCAA Clippd Scoreboard rankings were introduced for the 2023-24 season.
Leading the tournament are No. 36 Oregon and St. Mary’s, both tied at 9 under par, while Wyoming trails closely behind in third at 6 under. GCU aims for their sixth top-five finish of the season, currently five strokes away from fifth-place San Jose State.
Freshman Nixon Lauritzen is a standout performer for the Lopes, carding a score of 2 under, positioning him tied for 13th out of 91 golfers. Lauritzen posted back-to-back solid rounds with seven birdies combined. Senior Kiko Coelho follows closely with an even par score after showing resilience by recovering from an early double bogey to finish strong with five birdies.
Recent GCU Invitational champion Tommaso Zorzetto is currently tied for 32nd at 2 over par, while freshman Matthew Diehl and senior Josh McCabe sit tied for 54th at 5 over. GCU excels in various categories, ranking fourth in par 3 scoring and fifth in par 4 scoring throughout the event.
