Many Americans dissatisfied with Trump’s appointees, some facing backlash for group chat discussing military strategies

A recent NBC News poll conducted in March revealed that a majority of American voters are disappointed with the people that President Donald Trump has appointed to posts in his administration. This sentiment of disappointment is at a record high, compared to previous administrations. The poll was conducted before a story broke about senior Trump administration officials sharing sensitive information regarding plans to launch airstrikes in a Signal chat thread.

The survey found that 52% of respondents were generally disappointed with Trump’s appointments to lead federal agencies and departments, while 45% were pleased with his selections. This level of disappointment is higher than what was seen in previous administrations, including those of Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. The split between pleased and disappointed voters generally falls along party lines, with Republicans more pleased and Democrats more disappointed with Trump’s picks.

Despite the overall disappointment with Trump’s appointments, some of his nominees were confirmed by the Senate on close votes, with Vice President JD Vance breaking a tie in the confirmation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. This partisan divide in opinions on Trump’s nominations is reflecting in the overall approval ratings for his job performance, which currently stand at 47% approving and 51% disapproving among registered voters. The poll surveyed 1,000 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
