Timeline uncovers months of staff suspensions

The St. Helens School District in Oregon has released the names of 10 employees who have been placed on leave due to allegations of sexual abuse or failing to report sexual abuse. Among the employees are teachers from elementary through high school, as well as non-teaching staff. Three of the names released were already familiar, including choir teacher Eric Stearns and high school principal Katy Wagner, who have both been indicted. Superintendent Scot Stockwell, although not charged, has also been placed on leave.

The investigation into the allegations is still ongoing, with nine of the 10 names having an investigative status of “outside entity investigation still pending.” The district’s PR consultant confirmed that the 10 names are those associated with the current issues facing the district.

The district has faced intense scrutiny following the allegations, with a third-party investigation underway since December 2. The investigation is expected to take 45-60 days to complete. The district has already spent $191,000 on the 10 employees on leave.

The St. Helens School District has held two listening sessions with the community and has three more scheduled for next month. The district is prioritizing transparency and thorough investigation in response to the allegations.
