Kim monitors trials of North Korea’s latest reconnaissance and attack drones.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed tests of newly developed reconnaissance and attack drones, calling for increased production to enhance the country’s military capabilities. The tests involved a large reconnaissance drone and exploding drones designed for attack missions with artificial intelligence capabilities. Kim expressed satisfaction with the drones and approved plans to expand production. These tests took place as Kim visited a drone technology complex and electronic warfare research group. South Korea did not immediately comment on the North Korean report.

Kim has been emphasizing the development of drones and expanding his military capabilities, including nuclear-capable weapons targeting South Korea and intercontinental ballistic missiles potentially reaching the U.S. mainland. He is also aligning with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the war in Ukraine, sending troops and military equipment to support Russia’s efforts. Concerns have been raised about potential technology transfers from Russia to strengthen North Korea’s nuclear-armed military.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea sent around 3,000 additional troops to Russia in January and February, supplying ammunition, short-range missiles, self-propelled howitzers, and multiple rocket launchers. Of the approximately 11,000 North Korean troops sent to fight in Ukraine, an estimated 4,000 have been killed or injured. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have escalated as Kim continues to expand his military capabilities, raising concerns about the threat posed by North Korea’s growing arsenal.
