Today marks the end of 141-game losing streak for two college baseball teams.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Yeshiva University Maccabees and the Lehman College Lightning will face off in a nonconference doubleheader in Teaneck, New Jersey. Yeshiva has been struggling with a 99-game losing streak, while Lehman carries a 42-game losing streak. The last time Yeshiva won a game was on Feb. 27, 2022, against the John Jay Bloodhounds, while Lehman’s last win was on May 9, 2023, against the Baruch College Bearcats.

The matchup has been dubbed as “statistically the worst baseball game of all time” by Yeshiva alum and comic Eitan Levine. However, Yeshiva still has a long way to go to catch up to the Caltech Beavers’ record of 228 consecutive losses from 2003 to 2013. The NCAA has no records of the combined most losses by two teams in a single game.

Both Yeshiva and Lehman have refrained from commenting on their losing streaks, with university spokespeople stating that no comments will be made after the game. Despite the losing streaks, Lehman’s athletic director remains confident in coach Chris Delgado’s ability to turn the program around. Delgado himself acknowledges the challenges but believes the team is making progress.

The game will be played at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex, which has no lights, so a tie game could be a possibility if it goes into extra innings. Despite the losing streaks, both teams remain determined to work towards future success and rebuild their programs for excellence and integrity.
