Derek Kindle to Depart UW-Madison for Vice President Role at University of Oregon
MADISON, WI — Derek Kindle, the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, will leave the university in June to become the Vice President of Enrollment Management at the University of Oregon. Kindle has been a valuable member of the UW–Madison community since 2016, originally serving as the director of the Office of Student Financial Aid before assuming his current role in 2020.
Provost Charles Isbell highlighted Kindle’s significant contributions over nearly a decade, noting, “We have seen a transformed division, expanded access to the university, and consistently talented students choosing to come to Madison.” His leadership has been instrumental in achieving record-breaking application numbers and establishing initiatives aimed at increasing higher education access for Wisconsin residents. Notable programs developed during his tenure include Bucky’s Tuition Promise, Bucky’s Pell Pathway, and the Wisconsin Tribal Educational Promise.
Kindle is also recognized nationally in higher education circles, holding leadership positions in several organizations. He serves as a trustee of the College Board and is chair-elect of the Higher Education Loan Coalition (HELC), in addition to having recently been on the board of the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).
As the Division of Enrollment Management, under Kindle’s guidance, has successfully expanded its strategic approach to attract, enroll, support, and graduate adept students through its various offices, including Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab.
A national search for Kindle’s successor will commence this spring, aiming to find a leader who can continue to build on the foundations he has laid for the university.
