Eagles Fall to Ducks in High-Scoring Lacrosse Match

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Despite impressive hat tricks from Katheryn Wilson and Mackenzie Blackwell, the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team (6-7) fell to the University of Oregon (6-8) with a final score of 13-11 on Friday, April 11, at Scicluna Field. The Eagles initially surged to a 10-5 lead but witnessed an eight-goal rally from the Ducks that turned the tide.

The match kicked off with Emerson Henry scoring just under two minutes in, giving EMU the early edge. Following a response from Oregon, the Eagles regained momentum with goals from Blackwell and Abby Alderman, leading to a 5-3 advantage by the end of the first quarter, bolstered by two late goals from Wilson.

In the second quarter, EMU extended its lead to 7-3, thanks to Blackwell and Payton Bloedow’s contributions. However, the Ducks regrouped, scoring twice to close the gap. EMU responded with two more goals, ensuring a 9-5 lead at halftime, with Wilson and Blackwell completing their hat tricks.

After intermission, Roya Khaleeli’s goal pushed EMU to a 10-5 advantage, but the Ducks erupted for six consecutive goals, flipping the game and taking an 11-10 lead into the final quarter. Although Henry netted her second goal of the game, the Eagles couldn’t recover as Oregon sealed their victory with two more goals.

This match spotlighted standout performances: Blackwell secured her 11th hat trick of the season, breaking her own school record, while Wilson recorded her fifth. Goalkeeper Maddie Porter also set a new single-season record with 133 saves.

The Eagles will seek to rebound as they prepare for a crucial Mid-American Conference match against Kent State University on Sunday, April 13, at 1 p.m.
