Florida’s Dijon Johnson Arrested for Gun and Synthetic Marijuana Possession

Florida cornerback Dijon Johnson has been charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors following his arrest in Tampa. The incident occurred on a Friday when police stopped Johnson’s vehicle for running a stop signal. During the stop, officers noted a strong smell of burnt marijuana, and Johnson was reportedly uncooperative, refusing to exit his Dodge Challenger.

After he was removed from the car and taken into custody, police searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana, 8 grams of synthetic marijuana in a backpack, and a loaded Glock 19 handgun. The gun charge is classified as a second-degree felony, while the possession of synthetic marijuana is a third-degree felony. The marijuana possession and the charge of resisting arrest without violence are misdemeanors.

Johnson’s attorney, Tim Taylor, announced that his client has entered not guilty pleas to all charges, with further statements expected to be released. Coach Billy Napier acknowledged the situation, stating the program is monitoring the legal processes and cooperating with investigations.

At 21 years old, Johnson is a junior standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 196 pounds. He had a notable performance last season with 27 tackles and two pass breakups. He was booked into jail early Saturday and was released on an $8,500 bond the following day. The case raises concerns over player behavior and safety in collegiate sports, prompting the university to address the incident as they await further developments.
