Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, a 48-year-old man from Mississippi, has been charged with felony stalking and vandalism after allegedly crashing his car into actress Jennifer Aniston’s front gate. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Carwyle harassed Aniston between May 1 and May 5 by sending her unwanted messages via social media, voicemail, and email. The situation escalated on May 5 when he crashed his vehicle into her gate around 12:20 p.m. in Bel-Air, causing substantial damage. Aniston was home at the time but was unharmed. Carwyle was apprehended by Aniston’s security guard prior to police arrival and booked for felony vandalism connected to the incident.
The DA’s office noted that Carwyle faces allegations of an aggravating circumstance involving the threat of significant bodily harm. Prosecutors are seeking a bail amount of $150,000, and he is set to be arraigned Thursday. If found guilty of all charges, Carwyle could face up to three years in state prison.
Carwyle had been posting about Aniston on social media for months, expressing bizarre beliefs about being kept apart from her by forces he deemed corrupt. A longtime friend revealed that Carwyle has been living out of his car in Burbank since leaving Mississippi in September, following a downward spiral after quitting his job five years ago. Concerns over his mental health were raised, with friends noting significant personality changes since the pandemic. One friend expressed hope that the incident might draw attention to Carwyle’s need for serious help.
