Alma Galicia Edged Out in Thrilling Girls’ Mile at Oregon Twilight Meet
In a nail-biting finish at the Oregon Twilight presented by TrackTown USA, Alma Galicia showcased her strength in the girls’ mile but was narrowly beaten by Harper Fawcett. Galicia led for most of the race, clocking in a personal-best of 5:36.27, but Fawcett surged past her in the last 100 meters to claim victory with a time of 5:32.92.
The boys’ mile followed, where Ryder White emerged as a dominant force, finishing over 50 meters ahead of the competition with a time of 4:43.41.
The event also featured the Kids Half-Lapper, where young athletes, 8th grade and under, sprinted a 200-meter stretch alongside The Oregon Duck, receiving personalized bibs and tickets to enjoy the rest of the meet.
Churchill High School junior pole vaulter Addison Kleinke made headlines by setting a new personal best of 14′ 0.75", securing first place in her event while also competing in the long jump, achieving a jump of 5.39 meters for sixth overall.
Tradition took center stage during the Warsaw Business Club Costume Relay, where participants dressed as gingerbread men, bananas, pizza chefs, and business executives raced in a lively 4x100m relay, delighting the crowd.
Oregon athletes excelled across several field events, with Ducks junior Zach Young achieving a season-best throw of 204’5" in the men’s javelin, while Oregon transfer Daniel Thrana dominated with a remarkable throw of 249’9".
Oregon sophomore Ella Thorsett also shined in the women’s 1500m (B) section, finishing strong with a personal-best time of 4:16.82 after a stellar final lap kick. Overall, the Oregon Twilight Meet highlighted exhilarating performances and the spirit of competition.
